Bainbridge Cup Information

BAINBRIDGE CUP OVERVIEW:

  • The “Bainbridge Cup” is a Team Competition featuring “Team North America” versus “Team Europe”.
  • A third Team (a “Rest of the World” Team) is also expected to participate.
  • Teams will be formed by “ALL” players who register for this event.
  • This “Cup” is the inaugural event of the International Federation of Pickleball.
  • The Bainbridge Cup will be an annual event. The winning Team of the 2017 Bainbridge Cup will defend its title in the 2nd Annual Bainbridge Cup in 2018.

EVENT SCHEDULE:

  • The Intercontinental Cup will be held on Friday, September 15, 2017 in Madrid, Spain.
  • Immediately following the Cup competition will be another international competition: on September 16 and 17 the 3rd Annual International Pickleball Tournament will be held at the same location as the Cup. Therefore, there will be three consecutive days of competition at the same location: September 15, 16 and 17, 2017.

REGISTRATION:

  • One registration fee covers two tournaments: 1) the Bainbridge Cup, and 2) the International Tournament.
  • Early Registration Fee = 45 EURO ($48): November 1 2016 – May 31, 2017
  • Registration Fee = 55 EURO ($59): June 1 – August 31, 2017
  • Event Fee for the Bainbridge Cup = 15 EURO ($16) covers all events
  • Event Fee for the International Tournament = 10 EURO ($11) per event entered

COMPETITION FORMAT:

  • Team Competition: Europe versus North America
  • A third Team (a “Rest of the World” Team) is also expected to participate
  • Men’s, Women’s, and Mixed Doubles
  • Age/Skill-Based Competition
  • 19+, 50+, 65+, 70+, 75+, 80+
  • One-Day Event
  • All players will play multiple matches throughout the day
  • Each match is worth points for your team (Europe, North America, Rest of the World)
  • Limited to 250 participants
  • IFP sanctioning rules will apply

TEAM CAPTAINS:

  • Bainbridge Cup Team Captains:
  • Team North America: Marcin Rozpedski, Alice Tym, Chris Thomas
  • Team Europe: Leo González, Gema García, Ian Medhurst
  • Role of the Team Captains:
    • The Team Captains play a key role both before and during the competition. The Captains’ responsibilities include: 1) promoting the event and motivating players to register and join their Team, 2) answering registration- and competition-related questions, 3) helping to organize the competition, playing schedule, and partner match-ups, 4) ranking the players on their Team, and 5) playing for and helping their Teams to victory.

PICKLEBALL CLINICS:

  • Free pickleball clinics will be offered on Wednesday and Thursday, September 13 & 14, 2017. Clinics will be led by North American Team Captain Marcin Rozpedski, the world’s reigning pickleball singles champion, along with several other world-class players including Simone Jardim, Jennifer Lucore, Robert and Jodi Elliott, Alice Tym and Steve Wong to name a few.

  • 3RD ANNUAL INTERNATIONAL PICKLEBALL TOURNAMENT:

    • The day after the Bainbridge Cup competition there will be another international pickleball competition: on September 16 and 17 the 3rd Annual International Pickleball Tournament will be held at the same location as the Cup. Therefore, there will be three consecutive days of competition at the same location: September 15, 16 and 17, 2017.
    • The International Tournament will be hosted by the Spanish Pickleball Association
    • Dates: Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 16 and 17, 2017
    • Location: Madrid, Spain
    • Format:
      • Round Robin Pool Play followed by Double-Elimination Playoffs
      • Age/Skill-Based Tournament
      • 19+, 50+, 65+, 70+, 75+, 80+
      • Minimum of 4 matches guaranteed in each event entered
      • Limited to 250 participants
      • IFP sanctioning rules will apply
